Meet the Breeds 2013

It was a perfect autumn morning on Saturday, September 28, as we pulled into a parking garage in the heart of Manhattan. We pocketed our vehicle claim ticket and boarded an elevator bound for the street level that is New York City. The three of us—me, my husband, and our Whippet named Trooper—were on our way to greet thousands of adoring strangers.

Tanked!

Ross and Mia are my retired working Border Collies. Now that they’re senior citizens, they don’t herd sheep much anymore, except on rare occasions. However, they still require regular exercise that’s not only fun but also beneficial.

A Hound on His Rounds

Our Whippet, Trooper, is a therapy dog.

He passed the test just so that he could officially hang out with his favorite group of people—kids. When he goes on a visit, he politely acknowledges the adults who coo over him, but he’s really just being respectful to them in honor of his therapy badge.

However, once he spots the children, the real Trooper comes out.

The Ringmaster

Every morning I assume the role of ringmaster at a three-ring circus. I have three dogs—Ross, Mia, and Trooper—and each one gears up for the big show immediately after breakfast. It begins with a dash to the toy box and the all-important choice of preferred plaything.
